Choose the right kind of ride

For a casual town outing, a cruiser or e-bike can connect restaurants, shops, parks, and the waterfront approaches. On the beach, wide tires handle sand better than a standard narrow road tire. The firmest sand is generally closer to the water around lower tide, but riders must keep a safe distance from surf, vehicles, pedestrians, horses, and driftwood.

Wind matters as much as distance. A comfortable outbound ride can become a demanding return trip when the breeze is in your face, so begin with a shorter loop.

Choose equipment for the surface

Local rental fleets may include cruisers, fat-tire bikes, e-bikes, and multi-person surreys. A surrey works best as a shared town outing on paved streets; a fat-tire bike is the more practical question to ask about for firm beach sand. Riding with a group

Ask rental operators about helmets, child seats, trailers, surreys, locks, and where each vehicle may legally be used. Not every group cycle or rental is permitted on the beach. Children should ride only on routes appropriate to their control and traffic awareness.
