What to expect on a beach ride

Local outfitters lead riders onto the broad, hard-packed beach at a controlled pace. Most outings are designed to be approachable for beginners, with an orientation before the group reaches the sand. The exact route, pace, and duration depend on the outfitter, tide, weather, and the riders in the group.

The coast can feel much colder on horseback than it does in town. Wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and layers beneath a wind- or rain-resistant outer shell. Secure loose hats and anything that could blow away.

Guided rides versus bringing your own horse
