Fishing around Ocean Shores
Ocean Shores sits between the Pacific, Grays Harbor, freshwater lakes, and canals. The right tackle, license, season, and safety plan depend on where and what you intend to fish. Families and beginners often find calm freshwater more approachable than surf or jetty conditions.
Duck Lake and the canals
Duck Lake supports stocked rainbow trout alongside warm-water species such as largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and yellow perch. The lake and connected canals are shallow and sheltered compared with the Pacific, but anglers still need the current freshwater license and species rules. North Bay Park and Chinook Park are practical places to investigate for launch and shoreline access.
Offshore and charter fishing
Ocean Shores Marina and the larger charter fleet in Westport open access to salmon, halibut, lingcod, bottom fish, and seasonal tuna trips. Offshore charters are a substantially bigger weather, time, and cost commitment than fishing Duck Lake. Compare the target species, trip length, included gear, cancellation policy, and motion-sickness preparation directly with the operator.
Before casting, use Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife resources to identify the water, species, current rule, and license that apply. Never assume advice for one beach or lake transfers to another.
Razor clamming requires a live check
Razor-clam beaches are not continuously open. WDFW approves specific beaches and dates after reviewing populations and marine-toxin results. Every digger must follow the current license, container, harvest, and beach rules. Conditions can still be cold, dark, windy, and wet during an approved opening.
